Feb 3rd – Day of Rainy Weather

Today I woke up to the peaceful tapping of a ‘female’ rain against the windows in my room. It was so nice to hear and during my sleep and even the first few minutes when I woke up before opening my eyes, I thought I was at home. That the puppies were snuggled in their beds avoiding the mud and muck and when I come out of my room I would see my family. Evan would be either watching TV or playing video games and mom and dad would be either cooking, running errands or just lounging. I had a tiny smirk on my face and then, I opened my eyes. I wasn’t home, I was in Spain studying abroad. Which when I realized this I was partially sad and happy. I was blue because I miss being home and seeing my family, especially on rainy days. They happen to be my favorite to wake to back home, and whenever I hear a good storm, it reminds me of the storms back in Tulsa that we get so often. And I was happy because this whole time I’ve been in Spain seems so surreal. I feel like it’s not real sometimes and I won’t realize that it happened to me until I go back home. I always feel like I’m dreaming and that soon someone will wake me up and I’ll see that it didn’t happen. I would wake to find myself still back home, living in the sorority house, wanting so badly to experience something more. The reason I was happy was because this is real…I really am here having the time of my life and it’s not a dream as I feared. Cool. I got dressed then and went to go downstairs to eat. Adrian wanted to play with me so we built a couple of things with his legos and then he showed me his dinosaurs. After I told him I needed to go eat, and he said (sigh) okay…so Ana made me some soup and told me that tomorrow she was making her bean soup (which happens to be my favorite food she makes) and asked if it was okay. Of course! I almost drooled a little when she said she was making it because I got so excited. Then I went back to my room to work on my homework for film class. Which basically means re-watching the movies we’ve seen in class so I understand them better. In this class we get a copy of every movie to in case we have problems understanding, we can watch it outside of class to take it in better. After a light snooze, I had dinner. Ana told me that tomorrow she was starting class so she would have my lunches sitting out for me in case I came back before she did. I asked her what kind of class, and she said it was a class on working in an office. (This is just going over new stuff that they are using now, procedures, etc) She used to be a secretary before she had Adrian, just a light job to keep busy and wants to go back. Being a housewife isn’t for her, or at least staying and cleaning the house everyday. I mean she obviously likes doing it but she just wants something to get out of the house and to keep busy. Cool. Then she asked me about Carnival and if we had something similar. I told her kind of, more or less Mardi Gras, but I liked Carnival better. She asked what do they do which I explained the masks and New Orleans and the flashing for beads. Which she asked, does that really happen?! And I was sad to tell her that it does…I said that back home you drink a lot and party and explained the flashing. She laughed and said, well you won’t find that here. I told her that’s okay, I won’t miss it! After, I went to my room and fell asleep again.
Feb 4th – Day of Length
Mondays are always my longest days since I have my film class so much later than my civ class. But I usually just bring my lunch, or the lunch that Ana prepares for me, and do homework and talk on Skype. Today’s movie was called ‘Land and Liberty’ and was basically trying to analyze how the Republic lost the Civil War. It was pretty interesting to see because when we had first gone over the Civil War I couldn’t figure out how they lost power. After I went back to my host home, ate dinner worked on some homework and went to bed.
